Below is our formal adopted statement of faith.
First Baptist Galesburg Statement of Faith
-
We Believe
The love and mercy of God the Father, the comfort and inspiration of the Holy Spirit and the preeminence of Christ as our Lord and Master
The incarnation, sacrificial death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ
The supreme authority of the Bible, as the inspired Word of God, and its sufficiency as our only rule of faith and practice (2 Tim. 3:16)
The right of private interpretation and the competency of the individual soul in direct approach to God
The separation of church and state
God’s will regarding marriage as the union of a man and a woman (Gen. 2:23-24)
A regenerate church membership
The ordinances of believer’s baptism by immersion and the Lord’s Supper in obedience to the commands of Christ
The autonomy of the local church – that each local church is self-governing, choosing its own pastor and managing its own affairs
The meaningful association fellowship with other Christian organizations
A worldwide program of missionary fervor and evangelism in obedience to the commands of Jesus
The spiritual unity of all believers for which the Master so earnestly prayed
The mandate of the Church to promote God’s Kingdom through prayer, study of the Scripture, public worship, the preaching of the gospel, consistent Christian living by its members, personal evangelism, missionary endeavor, Christian education and a responsible witness to the world
Believing that our call to membership in the church is a call to witness in the world, we will seek to live to the glory of Christ who has called us into His service.
