ASLO?

Yes, “ASLO.”  It’s an acrostic and it’s memorable because it looks like a misspelling of the word, “also.”  But ASLO represents the important practices that are essential to abiding in Christ – which is a core belief and value for us.  You’ll get it as we explain below…

How to Abide in Christ

"I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener...Remain in me, and I will remain in you.  For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.  Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches.  Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit.  For apart from me you can do nothing" (John 15:1, 4 & 5, NLT).

  • abide in christ

    A stands for “abide in Christ.”  New translations use the word “remain.”  Throughout the Bible, it was God’s presence that provided blessing for his people.  Indeed, Moses was terrified to move forward without God’s presence among his people (Ex. 33:15).  We are designed to live in God’s presence.  The “A” in our little acrostic is the reminder to cultivate an awareness of God’s presence in our life and to remain there.


  • saturate your life and your mind with scripture

    S stands for saturating our mind and our lives with Scripture.  The written record of God’s word is the Bible.  Read it.  Meditate on it.  Memorize it.  Psalm 119, the longest chapter in the Bible, tells how important and how glorious it is to saturate our mind and life with God’s word.  It will transform your thinking and will enable you to hear God’s Spirit speak to you. 

  • Listen for the voice of the holy spirit

    L stands for listen for the Voice of the Spirit.  When the Bible was finally completed, God didn’t stop speaking!  He still speaks today.  It is the power of his Voice that spoke the whole creation into existence.  And yet, he will speak with his distinct Voice into your life if you have “ears to hear.”  Cultivate the ability and desire to hear God’s distinct Voice.  You will hear the Voice most clearly in Bible, the written word of God.  

  • obey what god tells you to do

    O stands for obedience to the Spirit’s Voice.  It does no good to just hear God’s Voice.  If you just hear it and don’t act on it, you’re building your house on sand (Matt. 7:26-27).  But when you do obey the Voice you listened to (L), your life will bear much fruit!
